Walmart (NYSE:WMT) has recalled some shrimp products in 13 U.S. states after a shipment of seafood tested positive for radioactive contamination.
The FDA announced that certain Great Value raw frozen shrimp sold at Walmart could be potentially contaminated with cesium-137, a radioactive isotope.
The recalled shrimp was sold at Walmart locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia.
One sample of breaded shrimp tested positive for the substance, but this positive sample “did not enter U.S. commerce,” the FDA said. FDA’s investigation is ongoing.
FDA has also added PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods of Indonesia) to a new import alert for chemical contamination to stop products from this firm from coming into the U.S. until the firm has resolved the conditions that gave rise to the appearance of the violation.
