Walmart strikes strategic pact with Meituan to drive China e-commerce sales
Walmart (NYSE:WMT) is looking to boost its e-commerce sales in China through a strategic partnership with Chinese shopping platform Meituan.
The retailer will feature its products on the Chinese delivery company’s app, a move that will help the U.S. company accelerate its e-commerce business in China, which accounts for nearly half of its sales in the country, Walmart’s China unit said in a Wechat post.
Meituan commands a strong consumer base in the country and provides various retail services, including entertainment, dining and delivery.
In its recent earnings call, Walmart (WMT) noted that its business in China continued to grow double-digits, with strength in Sam’s Club and eCommerce.
As of October, Walmart had 332 retail units in China.
