Waymo to expand services to Miami with Uber-backed Moove
Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) autonomous vehicle driving unit Waymo is expanding its operations into Miami, the company said in a blog post Thursday.
Through its new fleet partnership with Moove, Waymo expects to work with them first in Phoenix and put them in charge of managing fleet operations, facilities, and charging infrastructure.
Waymo said it will continue to be responsible for driver validation and operation and offer the service through its existing app.
“We are excited to partner with Moove in Phoenix and later Miami, bringing together their mobility-focused fleet management experience with our growing Waymo One service,” Waymo’s VP of operations Ryan McNamara said.
Moove is a mobility fintech company that helps with the financing of vehicle ownership. The company has a global partnership with Uber (UBER), which led a $100 million series B funding round for the African firm. It has operations in 12 markets across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Uber and rival ride-hailing service firm Lyft (LYFT) are down 5% reacting to the announcement of the news.
