Warner Bros.’ (NASDAQ:WBD) Weapons held onto the top spot at the North American box office this weekend, scaring up an estimated $25 million in its second frame, according to studio estimates compiled by Comscore. The R-rated horror hit dropped just 43% from its strong debut and has now amassed $89 million domestically and $148.8 million worldwide.
Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) Freakier Friday settled into second place with $14.5 million, bringing its total in the United States and Canada to $54.8 million. The sequel, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, has grossed more than $86 million globally after two weekends.
Universal’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Nobody 2, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2021 sleeper action hit, landed in third with $9.25 million from 3,260 theaters. Starring Bob Odenkirk as relentless vigilante Hutch Mansell, the film also took in $4.9 million overseas for a $14.2 million global launch.
Rounding out the top five, Marvel’s (NYSE:DIS) The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned $8.8 million in its fourth weekend for a $247 million domestic haul, while Universal’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) The Bad Guys 2 added $7.5 million, bringing its cume to $57.2 million.
Outside the top five, Warner Bros.’ (NASDAQ:WBD) Superman continued to perform with $5.3 million and a running total of $340.9 million domestically, while Paramount’s (PARA) revival The Naked Gun and Universal’s (CMCSA) Jurassic World Rebirth added modest business.
Prathyangira Cinemas’ Coolie, an Indian action drama led by Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth, cracked the Top 10 with $2.37 million from 800 theaters, earning a strong $2,960 per-location average. The film has now grossed $6.3 million domestically since opening Thursday.
Other notable new entries just outside the Top 10 included Yash Raj Films’ War 2 ($1.7 million) and Toho’s Shin Godzilla 4K ($1.7 million), while Lionsgate Premiere’s (NYSE:LION) Americana, starring Sydney Sweeney, debuted with $500,000.
