The world’s leading video streaming platform, YouTube (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL), on Thursday came out with two new AI features that it hopes will further improve user experience.
The company said it has rolled out a carousel-like feature that would suggest videos and topic descriptions by creators across YouTube while displaying search results.
For example, if a user searched for “best beaches in Hawaii,” they would be able to see an AI-generated carousel highlighting clips from videos in results such as “the best snorkel spots and volcanic beaches,” while also showing descriptions and video suggestions, YouTube said.

The carousel feature for now will only be available to premium members in the U.S. for searches related to shopping, travel, or things to do in a specific place.
Additionally, the company said it will expand its conversational AI tool testing to some non-premium users in the U.S. after receiving positive feedback from premium users. The tool is able to answer questions and suggest related content, among other things, without interrupting a user’s playback experience.
Embedding AI onto the platform comes at a momentous time as YouTube dominates the U.S. media landscape.
A recent Nielsen report said TV viewing via streaming overtook combined cable and broadcast for the first time, with YouTube having the lion’s share of TV streaming.
Media reports have also suggested that AI tools from the platform’s parent have drastically reduced traffic to news sites.
