Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is nearing a deal with the European Union that would allow the tech giant to stave off antitrust fines, Bloomberg reported.
Regulators from the continent are likely to accept Microsoft’s promise to remove Teams from its Office suite of software packages, the news outlet added, citing people familiar with the matter. The decision comes after rivals did not raise any concerns in a market test, the people added.
In May, it was reported that Microsoft would likely avoid being penalized a hefty amount from the European Union after its latest offer on its Office and Teams product.
Microsoft and the European Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
Microsoft came under fire when Slack, owned by Salesforce (CRM), complained in 2020 to the European Commission that Microsoft received an unfair advantage by bundling Office and Teams together.
