Monday – January 12
- Volatility watch – AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) and Oklo (OKLO) are set up for a volatile week of trading based on options volume. The most overbought stocks per their 14-day relative strength index include Amicus (FOLD), Shattuck Labs (STTK), and Dynavax (DVAX). The most oversold stocks per their 14-day Relative Strength Index include CVR Energy (CVI), Lamb Weston (LW), and AudioEye (AEYE).
- IPO watch – No significant IPOs are scheduled for the week. The analyst quiet period expires on Medline (MDLN), Andersen Group (ANDG), and Starfighters Space (FJET) to free up analysts to post ratings. The IPO lockup period expires for blocks of shares of Delixy (DLXY) and Masonglory (MSGY).
- Dividend watch – Companies that have an ex-dividend date coming next week include AT&T (T), Verizon (VZ), Comcast (CMCSA), and Abbott Labs (ABT).
- Spotlight on ICR – One of the biggest retail conferences of the year will take place. The ICR Conference typically includes a wave of holiday sales updates and full-year guidance announcements. Notable companies participating include Walmart (WMT), Urban Outfitters (URBN), Shake Shack (SHAK), Movado (MOV), and Yeti Holdings (YETI).
- All day – The four-day JPMorgan Healthcare Conference begins in San Francisco. The conference is considered one of the most important of the year in the healthcare sector. Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Novartis (NVS), AstraZeneca (AZN), Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY), and Kodiak Sciences (KOD) are some of the notable companies making presentations. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary will give a dedicated keynote talk on regulatory priorities, accelerated approvals, AI in drug development, and safety/efficacy standards.
- All day – The National Retail Federation’s Big Show event will take place in New York City. BJ’s Wholesale Club (BJ) CEO Robert Eddy, Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS) Executive Chairman Ed Stack, and Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) CEO Fran Horowitz will be giving speeches or participating in fireside chats.
- All day – The USDA will issue its monthly World Agricultural Supply & Demand Estimates report. WASDE includes U.S. and world supply-demand tables for wheat, rice, coarse grains (such as corn, sorghum, barley, oats), oilseeds (notably soybeans), and cotton, plus some coverage of sugar and livestock.
- All day – Shareholders of Avadel Pharmaceuticals (AVDL) vote on the buyout offer from Alkermes (ALKS). AVDL traded about 4% below the buyout price of $22.50 at the time of publication.
- 10:35 a.m. St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President Alberto Musalem will speak on the U.S. economy and monetary policy before an MNI webinar.
- 6:00 p.m. New York Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams will give a keynote before the C. Peter McColough Series on International Economics event organized by the Council on Foreign Relations.
Tuesday – January 13
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include JPMorgan Chase (JPM), Bank of New York Mellon (BK), and Delta Air Lines (DAL).
- All day – The three-day Needham Growth Conference features a long list of companies presenting, including PagerDuty (PD), Surf Air Mobility (SRFM), Bitfarms (BITF), and Navitas (NVTS).
- All day – It is the five-year anniversary of Affirm Holdings’ (AFRM) IPO. The stock traded 67% above the IPO price of $49 at the time of publication.
- All day – Shareholders with Denny’s (DENN) will vote on the deal to be taken private by TriArtisan Capital Advisors (owner of TGI Fridays and P.F. Chang’s).
- 8:30 a.m. The Consumer Price Index report for December will be released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists expect the core inflation rate to remain level at 2.7%.
- 9:00 a.m. The New Home Sales report will be released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Wednesday – January 14
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Bank of America (BAC), Wells Fargo (WFC), Citigroup (C), and H.B. Fuller (FUL).
- All day – The Detroit Auto Show will include press conferences and model reveals from major automakers. The winners of the 2026 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards will also be announced.
- All day – OPEC will publish its monthly oil market report.
- 8:30 a.m. The U.S. Census Bureau is scheduled to release the November Retail Sales report.
- 9:50 a.m. Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank President Anna Paulson speaks on the economic outlook before the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia State of the Economy event.
- 2:00 p.m. The Federal Reserve will release its Beige Book Report. The report will summarize current economic conditions across the Fed’s districts.
- 2:10 p.m. New York Federal Reserve Bank President John Williams will give opening remarks before an event organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Thursday – January 15
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Morgan Stanley (MS), Goldman Sachs (GS), BlackRock (BLK), and JB Hunt Transport (JBHT).
- All day – Costco (COST) will hold its annual meeting. Shareholders will vote on the usual director elections, auditor ratification, say-on-pay, and at least one shareholder proposal related to ESG/climate issues. There has been speculation that Costco (COST) may announce a special dividend this year.
- All day – Traders have their eyes on the release of the Cocoa Association of Asia’s quarterly grindings report.
- All day – Bank credit card metric reports will be closely watched for signs that consumers are buckling to financial pressure. American Express (AXP), Bank of America (BAC), Citigroup (C), Capital One Financial (COF), Discover Financial (DFS), JPMorgan (JPM), and Synchrony Financial (SYF) are all due to update on credit card net charge-offs and delinquency rates for December.
- All day – Topgolf Callaway (MODG) will officially revert to its old name, Callaway Golf, following the sale of a controlling stake of the Topgolf business.
Friday – January 16
- All day – It is the last day before the FOMC blackout period ahead of the next meeting begins. Fed Vice Chair Philip Jefferson, Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, Fed Governor Michael Barr, and Fed Governor Stephen Miran all have talks planned.
