Airlines urge Congress to pay air traffic controllers if there is a government shutdown

The Airline of America trade group urged Congress to pay air traffic controllers in the event of a partial government shutdown after the industry suffered a major disruption during a 43-day standoff last year.

“Congress knows firsthand the important role that ATC has in keeping our skies safe, and the FAA has noted that shutdowns now create safety issues that are simply not acceptable. The FAA’s safety mission is too important to be subjected to an unpredictable and unstable process.”

Current Airlines of America member airlines include Alaska Airlines (ALK), American Airlines (AAL), Atlas Air, Delta Air Lines (DAL), FedEx (FDX), Hawaiian Airlines (ALK), JetBlue Airways (JBLU), Southwest Airlines (LUV), United Airlines (UAL), UPS Airlines (UPS), and Air Canada (ACDVF).
