Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is working on a pair of augmented-reality glasses for consumers in a push to compete with Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), according to a report by The Information on Wednesday, citing sources.
Amazon’s glasses, internally codenamed Jayhawk, will include microphones, speakers, a camera, and a full-color display in one eye, two people with direct knowledge of the matter told the tech news outlet.
Sources told The Info that Amazon is also developing AR glasses for its delivery drivers, designed to help drivers sort and deliver packages. Codenamed Amelia, these glasses will give workers instructions on the screens of their eyeglasses, telling them where to take parcels.
The company is aiming to launch the product for consumers in late 2026 or early 2027, the report said, citing sources, although its planned retail price is unknown.
A source told the news outlet that Amazon is using AR display technology from a Chinese firm called Meta-Bounds.
The report said the company is using the same underlying display technology in both the models being developed for consumers and for delivery workers. However, the consumer model will have a full-color display and will be less bulky and more sleek than the delivery worker model.
The model for delivery workers could be released as soon as the second quarter of 2026, and Amazon initially plans to make around 100,000 units, a source told the news outlet.
