U.S. tech and e-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) on Saturday said it would invest AUD 20B ($12.97B) to expand data center infrastructure in Australia by 2029.

As part of the plans, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) said it would invest in three new solar farms in the Australian states of Victoria and Queensland, and would commit to buying a combined capacity of more than 170 MW across the farms.

“This is the largest investment our country has seen from a global technology provider, and is an exciting opportunity for Australia to build AI capability using secure, resilient infrastructure,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in a statement.

The Australian plans come just days after Amazon (AMZN) announced a combined $30B investment in data centers in the U.S. states of North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
