Apple has internally discussed acquiring Perplexity AI - report

Hours after Bloomberg reported that Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) held talks with Perplexity AI, the news service is now reporting that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) also had internal discussions about acquiring the artificial intelligence search startup.
Apple’s head of M&A Adrian Perica has discussed the idea with SVP, Services Eddy Cue, along with other AI officials at the company, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
The talks within Apple are still at an early stage and may not result in a formal bid.
If Apple does acquire Perplexity AI, it would help the former develop an AI-based search engine. Apple currently has a deal with Google (GOOG)(GOOGL) to have the latter as the default search engine in its products, though that partnership is at risk from antitrust authorities.
