Apple has internally discussed acquiring Perplexity AI – report

- Hours after Bloomberg reported that Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) held talks with Perplexity AI, the news service is now reporting that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) also had internal discussions about acquiring the artificial intelligence search startup.
- Apple’s head of M&A Adrian Perica has discussed the idea with SVP, Services Eddy Cue, along with other AI officials at the company, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
- The talks within Apple are still at an early stage and may not result in a formal bid.
- If Apple does acquire Perplexity AI, it would help the former develop an AI-based search engine. Apple currently has a deal with Google (GOOG)(GOOGL) to have the latter as the default search engine in its products, though that partnership is at risk from antitrust authorities.
