Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is set to score its first summer blockbuster with its racing flick F1: The Movie, as the Brad Pitt starrer is expected to generate more than $300M at the global box office this weekend, The Financial Times reported on Saturday.
After reaching the top of the North American box office last weekend, F1, produced by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) in partnership with Warner Bros. (WBD), has raked in more than $200M since its June 27 opening.
“This is a movie that will run and run and run,” said Jeff Goldstein, distribution chief at Warner Bros. (WBD), adding, “There’s a lot of gas left in the tank.”
With a production budget of more than $200M, F1 is expected to become a moneymaker for the Cupertino, California-headquartered tech giant, as the film’s distribution costs are estimated at $50M.
Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) first major theatrical release, Killers of the Flower Moon, produced at a budget of more than $200M, grossed $160M in box office receipts globally. The iPhone maker’s other big-budget movies, Argylle and Napoleon, are considered commercial duds.
