Bitfarms chairman Bonta steps down, lead director becomes chairman

Bitfarms (NASDAQ:BITF) named Lead Director Brian Howlett as chairman, succeeding co-founder Nicolas Bonta, who is stepping down, effective immediately, the bitcoin data center company said on Tuesday.

In addition, CEO Ben Gagnon was appointed to the company’s board of directors, also effective immediately.

Bitfarms (BITF) named Liam Wilson as chief operating officer, effective Aug. 26, 2024. Wilson has held roles such as COO at Mawson Infrastructure Group, group operations manager at EVT Hospitality and Entertainment, and group operations manager at The Whitehouse Group.

“Liam will play a critical role in developing and refining our operational procedures and systems with the goal of improving efficiencies,” Gagnon said.

Bitfarms (BITF) continues to recruit for a senior vice president of mining operations, which had been held by Gagnon, and a vice president of HPC/AI, the company said.

“The Bitfarms board is focused on ensuring the company has the right team to oversee and implement the company’s strategic plan to deliver value in the near- and long-term,” said Edie Hofmeister, chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee.

Bitfarms (BITF) stock slipped 0.5% in premarket trading on a day when bitcoin (BTC-USD) dropped 1.8% to $58.8K.
