Microsoft, Open AI, Anthropic launch AI instruction academy with teachers unions

The American Federation of Teachers, the second largest teachers union in the U.S., has partnered with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), OpenAI, and Anthropic to launch the National Academy for AI Instruction.
The three companies are providing $23M in funding for the initiative, which will provide access to free AI training and curriculum for AFT and United Federation of Teachers members.
The program will initially be based at a facility in New York City, where the AFT is headquarted, in the fall, with plans to expand nationally. In five years, the aim is to reach 400,000 teachers.
The initiative “will include workshops, online courses, and hands-on training sessions, ensuring that teachers are well-equipped to navigate an AI-driven future,” according to a news release.
“Through scalable training modules, virtual learning environments and credential pathways, the program empowers a diverse range of educators to become confident leaders in AI instruction. In turn, these teachers will bring AI literacy, ethical reasoning and creative problem-solving into classrooms that might otherwise be left behind in the digital transformation.”
