For the week ending June 13, the S&P 500 Consumer Discretionary sector (NYSEARCA:XLY) saw a decline in price of 1.00%, underperforming the broader S&P 500’s (SP500) 0.48% decline. However, the sector’s year-to-date performance is even weaker, down 5.62%, significantly trailing the benchmark’s 1.62% rise.
Global markets faced a fresh wave of uncertainty this week, impacting consumer discretionary stocks, after Israel’s military strike on Iran escalated Middle East tensions. This added pressure to markets already strained by President Trump’s aggressive and unpredictable trade policies.

Top S&P 500 consumer discretionary gainers:
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) +10.22% as President Trump and CEO Elon Musk mend their relationship. Speaking at the White House earlier on Thursday, Trump called Musk “a friend” and has reopened dialogue with the Tesla CEO after a very public feud last week.
Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) +4.04% It is reducing prices on some iced drinks in China to stay competitive amid cautious consumers. CEO Brian Niccol noted strong interest in selling a stake in its China business. The company is also testing a new protein cold foam at select U. S. locations to improve its menu.
General Motors’ (NYSE:GM) +2.49% due to plans for a plug-in hybrid, increased U.S. investments, and an optimistic Q2 earnings forecast, according to GM’s chief financial officer Paul Jacobson at the Deutsche Bank Global Auto Industry Conference.

lululemon athletica (NASDAQ:LULU) -9.86% after Barclays reduced LULU’s price target to $270 from $276, maintaining an Equal Weight rating. The company’s Q1 results met expectations, but same-store sales growth fell short of estimates due to traffic issues, the analyst tells investors in a research note.
